Abortion Rights Network celebrates political dialogue opening on abortion and increasing public pressure for changes to abortion access.
A crowd gathered outside the Coles building on June 16th, 2015 to celebrate with the Abortion Rights Network as a petition calling for local access to abortion bearing over 1,000 signatures was tabled by MLA Peter Bevan-Baker, and seconded by MLA Tina Mundy. The crowd responded in cheers to the speakers panel, that included Dr Colleen MacQuarrie, Bethany Toombs, Josie Baker, Darcie Lanthier and petition creator, Becka Viau. Viau expressed an emotional response at the outpouring of support for her petition and encouraged others to continue the pressure needed to improve access to reproductive health services for Island women.
